Once again we are expecting treacherous weather conditions. I have spoken to our snow plow contractor and he has assured me that he is prepared, and the problems related to last week’s storms will not reoccur.
The storm is predicted to drop anywhere from 8 to 14 inches of snow in our area. The snowfall will begin prior to sunrise on Thursday and end quite late in the day. Hazardous road conditions will impact both the morning and evening rush hours. There will be near blizzard conditions at times.
Orange & Rockland Utilities is mobilizing its workforce to carry out the company’s Emergency Response Plan. You can report downed power lines (please don’t go near them) and power outages at www.oru.com/storms or by calling 1-877-434-4100. Power restoration status may also be obtained at the same email address and phone number.
For your safety and the safety of your loved ones, please have the following on hand prior to the storm:
At least one portable radio with spare batteries
Flashlights (and spare batteries)
First Aid items
A fully charged cell phone
Make sure you have your important medications handy
In the interest of safety for our residents and village staff, I will make a determination concerning the closing of Village Hall early on Thursday morning. We have an answering service which takes calls for us when we are closed due to inclement weather.
Please stay at home if possible. The roadways will then be free for the police and emergency workers.
We value the safety of our residents. When power outages occur I stay in contact with O&R. The utility evaluates the power outages and makes the decision as to which areas have first response. Please notify the utility if you or a loved one rely on electrically powered health equipment. The utility will then make arrangements to get a temporary source of power to your home.
