Beginning at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, July 18 North Airmont Road will be closed to through traffic due to the replacement of the Norfolk & Southern Railroad track which crosses the roadway.  The roadway will be closed to traffic until Sunday, July 20.  It is hoped that the road will be opened as soon as possible on Sunday, however the work should be fully completed by 4:00 P.M. barring unforeseen difficulties.

Local traffic and businesses should have complete access to the roadway up to the full work zone.  If you live in either the Airmont Retreat or Airmont Gardens you will have no difficulty reaching your home from Route 59. There will be detour signs indicating the route to follow to get to the entrance ramps for the northbound and southbound New York State Thruway as well as other locations.

The movement of emergency vehicles has been addressed and plans are in place for access to and from locations in the villages of Airmont and Montebello.

If you are planning to have company at your home, please notify your guests of the detours to take to arrive safely at your house.

The replacement of the railroad track is well overdue.  Officials from the New York State Thruway Authority, Norfolk & Southern Railroad, the County of Rockland, the Town of Ramapo, Emergency Services, Orange & Rockland and I have been meeting to discuss the scope of the work and the quickest time table for completion. Our next meeting will be on July 15.

It is planned to have the N.Y. Alert system send out reverse 911 calls informing our residents (and those of Montebello and Suffern) of the road closure and detours.

The Town of Ramapo has established an Information Hotline at (845) 357-5100 Ext.201

The Village of Airmont Staff, Board of Trustees, and Mayor wish you a safe and happy summer!
